about siio's

Sport Inclusion and Integration Officers (SIIO) have responsibility for the provision of sport & physical activity for people with disabilities, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+, mental health, Travelling community, direct provision and homeless services and other minority groupings. They also have a responsibility for education and training in this area and provide training for staff, clubs, organisations, schools and members of the public.

A large part of the SIIO role is consultation with clubs and organisation to offer advice and support to clubs on equipment and how to be inclusive of all members of their community.

Sustainable Participation

To support sustainable sport and physical activity participation opportunities for people with disabilities through the provision of quality initiatives, engaging with the existing clubs and the wider community.

To encourage sports clubs and volunteers to support the participation of people with disabilities in sport and physical activity through the facilitation of training and education thus creating awareness of Adapted Physical Activity i.e. Disability Inclusion Training (DIT).

To provide information and promote all opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sustainable sport and physical activity at local, regional and national level i.e. DCSWP/Website/Facebook Page.

The SIIO is coordinated by CARA (Sport Inclusion Ireland). Cara is a national organisation providing a collaboration platform across Ireland to enhance sport and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities.

The SIIO is coordinated by CARA (Sport Inclusion Ireland). Cara is a national organisation providing a collaboration platform across Ireland to enhance sport and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities. CARA has two main objectives:

  1. To lead, coordinate and support the developments of sport, physical activity and physical education for people with disabilities in Ireland.
  2. To coordinate, advocate and facilitate for the inclusion of people with disabilities in sport, physical activity and physical education in Ireland.
